Volunteer

Whether you have a few hours a week, or just join us to help at large events, we need you! Here are some reasons why folks have volunteered their time:

  1. Give back to the community – RICARES is a nonprofit that provides services to individuals and families who are in or seeking recovery from substance use disorders and other co-occurring behavioral health disorders. Most of our recoverees are from marginalized communities and often experience a crisis regarding basic needs. Volunteering for them allows people to help support their local community. It can be very rewarding to assist those in need.
  2. Gain experience – Volunteering for a nonprofit organization like RICARES can provide valuable hands-on experience, especially for someone interested in peer support, recovery coaching, social work, counseling, or community service careers. Volunteering allows people to use and develop skills like communication, organization, problem-solving, and more.
  3. Make connections – Volunteering brings people together and allows volunteers to network with other supporters, staff members, and clients of the organization. This can help someone wishing to explore job or internship opportunities in a related field.
  4. Personal fulfillment – Helping an organization provide critical services to the community can give volunteers a great sense of personal satisfaction and fulfillment. Knowing you’ve positively impacted others feels good.
  5. Support a cause you care about – If someone is passionate about helping people with substance use disorders, volunteering for RICARES allows them to directly support a mission they believe in.
