Who:

Rhode Island Communities for Addiction Recovery Efforts (RICARES, Inc.) to hold annual Legislative Day.  RICARES is an advocacy organization comprised of people in recovery from addiction to drugs and alcohol, their friends, families and allies.

What:

Why:

According to the US Department of Health and Human Services, Rhode Island ranks first in several substance abuse categories.  The RICARES Legislative Day is held in order to acknowledge the severity of the substance use problem in our state, and to assert that recovery from substance use disorders is a reality.  People in recovery from addiction vote, pay taxes, and are productive members of their communities. We must be afforded the opportunity to continue in our recovery process without barriers to getting jobs and caring for our families. The personal stories of thousands of Rhode Islanders successfully recovering from addiction demonstrate why it makes good sense both fiscally and ethically to not only continue to support their needs, but furthermore, to expand current levels of support.

On our Legislative Days, besides supporting legislation that removes barriers for people in recovery, RICARES also gives out awards to recognized people who have made a difference in the lives of people in the RI Recovery Community. This year we are looking for your nominations in the 3 categories listed below. Under them you will find a form you can fill out to nominate someone. It has the descriptions of each category. When you’ve filled it out, please send it to Holly Cekala c/o Anchor Recovery Community Center, 249 Main St, Pawtucket, RI 02860. You also may put your nominations in an e-mail and send them to Holly at hcekala_5192@email.ric.edu.  If you e-mail your nominations, please include all the information that the form below asks for (except your signature, of course). THE DEADLINE FOR YOUR NOMINATIONS IS FRIDAY, MARCH 30th, 2012.
